REV ION

Welcome to the REV ION Documentation Directory!

Tackling the challenges of the FIRST Robotics Competition requires rapid iteration, numerous revisions, and adaptation to the game challenges. Recognizing that not all teams have access to the same equipment or resources, we created REV ION to enable and empower all teams to be competitive.

REV ION is a system of mechanical and electrical products that are perfectly compatible with each other, allowing for complex robot designs without large budgets or extensive manufacturing resources. With basic tools, teams can build affordable, competitive machines, while preserving the ability to infinitely re-configure and iterate on their designs.

Look for the REV ION flag and logo on our website and shop with confidence knowing all products are compatible and designed to work together seamlessly.

REV Robotics is proud to supply for the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). For more information about the FIRST Robotics Competition, please visit the FIRST Robotics Competition website.

FRC Kickoff Concepts

REV Robotics is dedicated to helping robotics teams get a head start on building their robots for the current year's challenge by providing instant CAD models, videos, prototypes, and other materials. These concepts are designed to remove some of the frustrations of starting a new build season, while still maintaining the challenge and fun of the competition. The goal of our Kickoff Concepts project is to assist all teams, students, and mentors with ideas and resources to consider as the season progresses, regardless of their skill level or experience. Everyone at REV wishes all FRC teams good luck this year, and hopes to see you at CHAMPS!

REV ION Control System

The latest evolution in control system components for the FIRST Robotics Competition includes the REV Robotics Power Distribution Hub (REV-11-1850), Pneumatic Hub (REV-11-1852), Mini Power Module (REV-11-1956) and Radio Power Module (REV-11-1856).

REV ION Brushless System

In the fall of 2018, the NEO Brushless Motor and SPARK MAX Motor Controller became the first brushless motor and compatible ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) designed to meet the unique demands of the FRC community. Since then, REV Robotics has been working to continue the Brushless Revolution by releasing products and software features based on our customer's most popular feedback.

SPARK Flex Overview (REV-11-2159)

The SPARK Flex (REV-11-2159) is a new smart motor controller from REV Robotics. Its dockable form factor allows for direct mounting onto a NEO Vortex (REV-21-1652), simplifying wiring while maintaining flexibility. Improving upon the foundation of the SPARK MAX, new features include 3-phase current sensing, reverse polarity protection, and an expanded Data Port with additional interfaces. When docked to an adapter, the SPARK Flex can control any existing NEO or compatible brushless/brushed DC motor.

SPARK MAX Motor Controller (REV-11-2158)

SPARK MAX is the second member of the SPARK Motor Controller family. Building on the robust foundation of the original, SPARK MAX incorporates advanced brushed and brushless DC motor control in a small and easy-to-use package with PWM, CAN, and USB connectivity.

SPARK Motor Controller (REV-11-1200)

The REV Robotics SPARK Motor Controller was an inexpensive brushed DC motor controller designed to give FIRST Robotics Competition teams more bang for their buck. This product is discontinued.

NEO Brushless Motors

The REV NEO V1.1 Brushless Motor (REV-21-1650) and NEO 550 (REV-21-1651) are the first brushless motors designed to meet the unique demands of the FRC community. Both motors are optimized to work with the SPARK MAX Motor Controller to deliver best-in-class performance and feedback.

REV ION Build System

REV ION is a system of mechanical and electrical components that are perfectly compatible with each other, allowing for complex robot designs without the need for large budgets or extensive manufacturing resources. With just basic tools, teams can build affordable, competitive machines, while preserving the ability to infinitely re-configure and iterate on their designs.

MAXPlanetary System (REV-21-2100)

The MAXPlanetary is intended for use with the NEO-class motors, it also supports NEO 550 and 775 size motors. Building on the ability to iterate and adjust designs easily, the MAXPlanetary System consists of lubricated cartridges allowing for swapping gear ratios on the fly and with ease. The design of the MAXPlanetary has been carefully optimized to provide torque density unavailable in FRC up until now.

MAX 90 Degree Gearbox (REV-21-2120)

MAXSwerve (REV-21-3005)

The 3in MAXSwerve Module is the smallest and lightest swerve module designed for FRC Teams. Leveraging many parts of the REV ION System, MAXSwerve aims to reduce the complexity traditionally associated with swerve drivetrains. The module features a 3in wheel to ensure that your wheelbase is as wide as possible within your robot footprint.

2 Motor Gearbox- Through Bore (REV-21-2099)

The 2 Motor Gearbox is a two motor into one output gearbox that allows the user to adjust the gear ratio by changing pinion and cluster gear (12:60, 18:54, 24:48, or 36,36). The output shaft is 1/2in Hex through bore, and output gears have a MAXSpline bore. Mounting directly to the inside face of the chassis, this allows for more space above the chassis for other robotic components.

2 Motor Drivetrain Gearbox - Through Bore (REV-21-2190)

The 2 Motor Drivetrain Gearbox is compatible with the REV ION System and can be mounted in a variety of options, including flush with tube or spaced away from the tube to enable both chain in tube and chain/belt outside tube designs. The user can adjust speed by switching pinion gears on the motor between 10T, 11T, 12T, or can adjust wheel size by switching 2nd stage gear pairs. The output shaft is 1/2in Hex through bore, and output gears have a MAXSpline bore. This allows for a more configurable gearbox while freeing up room inside the chassis for other robots components.

Crossover Products

UltraPlanetary Gearbox (REV-41-1600)

The UltraPlanetary Gearbox is a cartridge based modular planetary gearbox designed with 550 motors, like the NEO 550, in mind. Easy to iterate and adjust designs using the pre-assembled and lubricated cartridges to swap gear ratios with ease.

Blinkin LED Driver (REV-11-1105)

Blinkin makes adding LEDs to your robot as simple as driving a motor. Chose the pattern you want and give it the corresponding PWM signal. The REV Robotics Blinkin LED Driver is a compact LED driver module that simplifies controlling both 12V RGB LED and 5V individually-addressable WS2812 LED strips. Blinkin combines internal LED drivers, a 5V power source, and a pre-programmed controller all in one package.

Sensors

REV Robotics offers a number of digital, I2C, and analog sensors for use as feedback devices on robots.

REV Hardware Client

The REV Hardware Client is software designed to make managing REV devices easier for the user. This Client automatically detects connected device(s), downloads the latest software for those device(s), and allows for seamless updating of the device(s).
